La Grange Park board to weigh sales tax change, road paving; pension and sustainability panels meet
The La Grange Park Village Board is scheduled to consider a new 0.25% village-wide sales tax and a $1.34 million road paving project at its July 28 meeting, according to the agenda. The board will also vote on several contracts. Other recent meetings included the Police Pension Fund and the Sustainability Commission. All three meetings were agenda-only; minutes have not yet been published.
Village Board
The board will consider five ordinances to create a 0.25% village-wide sales tax and reduce the sales tax rate in four business districts from 1.00% to 0.75%, effective January 1, 2027. The change is projected to generate about $53,000 in General Fund revenue by April 30, 2027, while shifting some sales tax revenue from business district funds to the General Fund.
The board will also vote on:
- A Comcast fiber internet renewal, increasing bandwidth from 200 Mbps to 500 Mbps for five years through July 31, 2031.
- An alarm monitoring agreement with Johnson Controls Security Solutions LLC from November 1, 2026 to October 31, 2029.
- The 2026 Road Bond Paving Project and North Village Hall Green Parking Lot Project with Triggi Construction, Inc. for up to $1,339,152.25.
- Water meter replacement at Plymouth Place with Midwest Meter for up to $54,000 from the Water Fund.
Police Pension Fund
At its July 27 meeting, the Police Pension Board of Trustees will consider a cash management policy, fiduciary liability insurance renewal, and membership applications for Mark Lemus and Chris Mota. The board will also elect officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary) and discuss continuation of a pension benefit for a post-retirement Article 3 fund member.
Sustainability Commission
The commission met August 3 to discuss a draft agreement with Urban Canopy for composting services and review the Community Solar Program. Members recapped the July 26 Native Plant Tour, which included 13 sites in La Grange, 6 in La Grange Park, and 2 in Brookfield. They also reviewed a corrected PowerPoint presentation for the Village Board and noted that Facebook page engagement was down 63% from the previous month.
