Lake County board weighs budget requests, housing agreement; no decisions yet reported
The Lake County Board of County Commissioners met Aug. 4 to consider second-quarter supplemental budget requests, a consolidated housing authority agreement, and amendments to fire restrictions, according to the meeting agenda. Budget and housing on the table
The board held a public hearing and was scheduled to vote on supplemental budget appropriations for the second quarter. The requests cover Water and Natural Resources, the County Attorney's Office, Communications, and a skate park. No dollar amounts were listed in the agenda.
Commissioners also considered a First Amended and Restated Combined Intergovernmental Agreement for the Leadville and Lake County Regional Housing Authority. The agenda does not specify the terms of the agreement.
Fire restrictions and special events
The board took up Resolution 2026-32 to amend Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in unincorporated areas. It also reviewed amended special events permits for the Leadville Trail 100 MTB, 10K Run, and 100 Run, which were changed because of the Willow Fire.
In addition, the board considered an intergovernmental agreement with Mountain View Villages Water and Sanitation District for the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election.
Work session on sustainability and disaster relief
On July 28, commissioners held a discussion-only work session. They received an overview of the Cloud City Conservation Center's sustainability contract workplan, part of the Climate Action Plan, led by the C4 Director and the Water + Natural Resources Director. They also discussed the Lake County Disaster Relief Fund Committee, with presentations from the County Manager and the Lake County Community Fund Board President. No votes or decisions were scheduled.
Property assessment appeals
Also on Aug. 4, the board sat as the County Board of Equalization to hear property assessment appeals. This quasi-judicial proceeding allows property owners to contest their valuations. No outcomes were reported.
