Lakeland boards take up sanitation rates, road projects, and planning items
Lakeland's Board of Commissioners, Community Advisory Board, and Municipal Planning & Design Review Commission all met in the past two weeks. The agendas included a sanitation rate ordinance, commissioner compensation, road project change orders, and planning discussions.
Board of Commissioners (Aug. 20)
The Board of Commissioners met with public hearings and final votes scheduled on two ordinances: one to amend commissioner compensation (repealing Ordinance 03-22) and one to amend sanitation collection rates (Ordinance 13-186). The board also considered a budget amendment and several resolutions, including:
- Change Order #2 for the FY2026 Street Paving project
- Change Order #1 with Chancellor Brothers, LLC for the New Canada Road project
- Authorizing MLGW work orders for easements related to New Canada Road construction
Municipal Planning & Design Review Commission (Aug. 13)
The commission discussed the Highway 70 Corridor and took up two actions: a subdivision of Lot 2, Area B of the Lakeland Commons Planned Development, and a time extension for the Arcadia Planned Development.
Community Advisory Board (Aug. 11)
The advisory board received reports on the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, Lakeland's 50th Birthday, the Fiscal Year 2026 Pavement Assessment, the Snow and Ice Control Plan, the Sanitation Rate Ordinance & TIF Contribution, and the Neighborhood Beautification Program. The board also elected officers and considered approval of the June 16, 2026 meeting minutes.
