LaSalle County committees weigh budgets, fees, and land-use actions in busy July stretch

County Board set to act on Assessment Office contract, salaries, and zoning amendments
The LaSalle County Board's July 9 agenda included a resolution approving a contract to upgrade the Assessment Office, a resolution amending salaries for the State's Attorney, Sheriff, and Public Defender, and several land-use resolutions. Those included a rezoning request for AAC Farms of Hennepin from A1 to I1 at 631 N 37th Rd, Utica, and a commercial grain storage resolution for Meriden Grain Co. at 684 N 44th Rd, Mendota. The board was also scheduled to adopt text amendments covering commercial wind, solar, energy storage, and related fee changes.
License Committee proposed new fee schedules for 2026–2027
The License Committee's July 7 agenda called for votes on updated fee structures for video gaming and amusement licenses, liquor and beer garden licenses, and vaping vending machine permits for the 2026–2027 budget year. The committee also planned to consider a one-day event license for Country Ranch and the 2026–2027 amusement/VGT distributor license.
Highway Committee considered solar road-use agreement and 2027 budgets
On July 9, the Highway Committee agenda included Resolution 26-16, a proposed Road Use Agreement with Alley Acres Solar LLC. A second Highway Committee meeting on July 15 listed votes on 2027 budgets for five funds — County Highway (005), Special Tax Match (006), County Bridge (007), and County Motor Fuel Tax (017) — plus a contract award for culvert work on County Highway 19 under Section 24-00869-00-00-DR, utility and boring permits, and a concurrence on a quote for de-icer aggregate.
Budget season across multiple committees
Several committees turned to 2026–2027 budget work. The Nursing Home, VAC, and ROE Committee (July 13) was scheduled to vote on budgets for both the Veterans Affairs Committee and the Nursing Home, plus a food-service contract bid and maintenance requests. The Finance & Fee Committee (July 14) listed a 2026–2027 budget presentation from the Coroner, action on continuation of the Insurance Trust, and rental of jail air conditioning for Public Safety. Health & Safety Committee reviewed workers' comp data
The Health & Safety Committee's July 8 agenda included workers' compensation figures showing 4 claims in June 2026 compared with 2 in June 2025, and year-to-date FY 2026 totals of 12 versus FY 2025's 10. New business covered defensive driving, with a monthly safety topic on the dangers of distracted driving.
Zoning Board weighed setback and lot-size variances
The Zoning Board of Appeals on July 15 had two requests on its agenda: reducing north/west setbacks from 10 feet to 3 feet at 52 Moline St, Seneca, and allowing lots smaller than 35 acres in A1 zoning at 1589 N IL RT 23, Streator.
