City Council directs $42.5M in bond cap to affordable housing; committee approves redevelopment plan

The Las Vegas City Council on Aug. 5 approved a series of resolutions directing $42.5 million in state private activity bond volume cap to four affordable housing developments, along with a $5.6 million contract for museum tenant improvements and an $8 million road project. All votes were 7-0.

The council approved bond cap transfers for four projects: $13.8 million for Marble Manor 2b (173 units), $15.5 million for Arthur D. Sartini Plaza rehabilitation (220 units), $6.16 million for Decatur Evergreen Apartments (141 units), and $7.075 million for Silver Desert Estates (139 units).

In other action, the council approved a $5.6 million contract for tenant improvements at the Las Vegas Museum of Art, an $8 million interlocal agreement with the Regional Transportation Commission for the Wyoming Avenue road project, and a 2.7% cost-of-living adjustment plus a 4% merit increase for the City Attorney. Over the past two weeks, several Las Vegas boards and commissions took action on city hiring, audit reports, and historic preservation memberships, while two funding requests for park signage and school safety improvements were delayed to later meetings.

Civil Service Board certifies eligible lists for seven city positions

The Board of Civil Service Trustees voted 4-0 on July 22 to certify eligible lists for seven promotional and open job roles: Business Licensing Supervisor, Business Specialist, Communications Specialist Supervisor, Contracts Specialist, Fire Engineer, Pool Technician, and Sr Signing & Marking Technician. The board also approved final minutes from its July 8, 2026 meeting (4-0). Certification of eligible lists determines which candidates city departments may draw from when filling vacancies.

Audit Oversight Committee accepts IT mobile device audit

On July 20, the Audit Oversight Committee approved final minutes from its April 20, 2026 regular meeting by reference (5-0). The committee also accepted the audit report for the Innovation and Technology Department's Mobile Communication Device Management, identified as IT011-2526-03, with a 5-0 vote. No other actions were taken.

Historic Preservation Commission approves memberships, delays park signage

The Historic Preservation Commission met July 22 and approved final minutes from June 24, 2026 (8-0). The commission approved $200 for a National Alliance of Preservation Commissions membership renewal (8-0) and $250 for a National Trust for Historic Preservation Preservation Leadership Forum membership renewal (8-0).

The commission held $15,950 in funding for Kautz Environmental Consultants for historical signage at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs in abeyance to August 26, 2026 (8-0). That funding was not approved at this meeting.

Centennial Commission elects officers, delays school safety funding

Las Vegas City Council approves $3.9M pipe assessment contract; Planning Commission greenlights recovery center permit

City Council

The City Council on July 15 unanimously approved a contract for the Small Diameter Pipe Assessment Program, not to exceed $3,923,557.31, and a $560,025 modification to a contract for a Department of Public Safety Units restroom addition. All items on the consent agenda passed 7-0.

The commission also approved a major amendment for Badd Ash Group's alcohol-service expansion (7-0-0) and approved variances for Sam Dunnan (carport) and Shirley Hughes (patio cover), each 7-0-0.

The commission denied applications from 2331 MLK Investment and related variance, special use, and SDR requests (7-0-0), and denied Umbra Holdings condominium and related requests (7-0-0).

Blak Development's auto-repair and restaurant permits were approved with conditions on a 6-0-1 vote. Several items were held in abeyance to later dates: items 7, 23, 26, 32a, 32b, and 38-40 to August 11, 2026, and items 35a and 35b to September 8, 2026 (7-0-0).

Redevelopment Agency

The Redevelopment Agency on July 15 approved a $200,000 Professional Services Contract 260208-RH with the Corporation for Supportive Housing (7-0) and a $50,000 Commercial Visual Improvement Program agreement with Bridge Counseling Associates, Inc. (6-0-1). Minutes of the June 17, 2026 meeting were approved 7-0.

Las Vegas City Council approves $12.3M Vision Zero road safety project, $9.2M storm drain in unanimous vote
