Minneapolis City Council accepts $4.09M sewer grant, approves $2.57M Convention Center contract
The Minneapolis City Council accepted a $4,091,061 Metropolitan Council grant for sewer repairs and pipe lining and approved a $2,569,098.96 contract to replace floor boxes in Convention Center Exhibition Hall E during its July 30 meeting.
City Council (July 30)
The Council also accepted two State of Minnesota grants for employment and training services: $1,252,963 and $500,463. Members approved an interim use permit for an emergency shelter at 219 4th St S and advanced rezoning and an alley vacation for properties at 3000 Minnehaha Ave and 3033 Snelling Ave.
Public Health, Safety & Equity (July 22)
The committee approved a $1,400,000 three-year contract with Hennepin Technical College for police cadet training. It also approved a $300,000 contract amendment with A Mother's Love Initiative and a $3,000 amendment with Center for Multicultural Mediation, both for trauma response services. A $21,000 amendment was approved with GovWorx, Inc. for 911 quality assurance software, and a $150,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Health was accepted for family home visiting services.
Enterprise & Labor Relations (July 20)
The committee approved a $1,369,100 contract with Ebert, Inc. for the Fire Department Training Apparatus Expansion Project. It established a Director Environmental Health position with a salary range of $131,575 to $155,971. A $290,000 contract increase was approved with Saba Software (Canada), Inc. for performance management system support. Legal settlements totaling $120,000 were approved for Cameron Cecchini ($35,000) and Terrence Floyd ($85,000). The committee also accepted a $60,000 settlement from Northern States Power Company for a Convention Center power cabinet failure.
Business, Housing & Zoning (July 21)
The committee approved liquor licenses for Strange Loop Laboratory at 1629 Hennepin Ave and Asher's Bar & Grill at 2730 Lake St W. It approved a $1,252,963 state dislocated worker grant and a $500,463 youth employment grant. Developer Technical Assistance Program (DTAP) grants ranging from $25,000 to $75,000 were approved for nine entities. The committee also approved the $2,569,098.96 bid for the Convention Center Hall E floor box replacement and rezoning applications for 3000 Minnehaha Ave and 3033 Snelling Ave.
Climate & Infrastructure (July 23)
The committee approved a $4,091,061 Metropolitan Council grant for sewer repairs and cross-connection elimination and a $2,200,000 contract for the Columbia Heights Membrane Plant roof replacement. A $64,180 subordinate funding agreement was approved for METRO Green Line Extension professional staff costs. Block event permits were approved for Dinner du Nord on Sep 10, 2026, and Banana Ball Games on Aug 7-9, 2026. Public hearings were set for Sep 10, 2026, on 2027 service charges for the Downtown DID and seven Special Service Districts.
Committee of the Whole (July 28)
The body approved a state-mandated food hall license law and sent forward a $300,000 U.S. Department of Justice grant application for the NIBIN Modernization Program. It also approved a directive to analyze legislative budget processes and received tracking and reform reports.

Several advisory and procedural bodies met between July 20 and July 30 with no substantive agenda items or decisions.
