County planning bodies act on rezonings, setbacks; commissioners set to certify election and weigh $215K plow truck
The Minnehaha County Planning Commission recommended denial of a rezoning request in Split Rock Township and approved seven other land-use items on July 27, 2026, while a joint county-city board denied a variance that would have eliminated a side yard setback.
Planning Commission: Split Rock rezoning recommended for denial
The Planning Commission approved eight consent items, all by 6-0 votes, including conditional use permits for accessory dwelling units in Wall Lake Township and Brandon Township, a horse therapy home occupation in Split Rock Township, a car detailing home occupation in Logan Township, and a rezoning from A-1 Agricultural to C Commercial in Red Rock Township.
The commission recommended denial of Rezoning 26-06, which sought to change property in Split Rock Township from A-1 Agricultural to RR Rural Residential. That vote was 5-0.
Joint Board of Adjustment: Setback variance denied
The Joint Minnehaha County and City of Sioux Falls Board of Adjustment denied Variance 26-01, a request to reduce a side yard setback from 10 feet to 0 feet in Split Rock Township. The County board voted 4-1 to deny, and the City board voted 0-5 to deny.
The joint body also approved meeting minutes from September 23, 2019, with both the County and City voting 5-0.
Joint Planning Commission: Benton Township rezoning withdrawn
The Joint Minnehaha County and City of Sioux Falls Planning Commission approved minutes from May 18, 2026 (County 6-0, City 5-0) and acknowledged the withdrawal of Rezoning 26-01 for Lot 1 and Lot 2 Sundermann Addition in Benton Township (County 6-0, City 5-0).
Board of Commissioners: Landfill hearing, highway transfer on agenda
The Board of Commissioners held a July 21, 2026, meeting that included a public hearing on Solid Waste Permit 26-01 for the renewal and expansion of the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill. The agenda also listed a motion to adopt a resolution transferring jurisdiction of County Highway 103 to Valley Springs, a special-event consume-and-blend beverage license for an event on October 9, 2026, and authorization for the Commission Chair to sign an assignment of the Construction Manager at Risk Agreement from Henry Carlson Construction to J.E. The commission was scheduled to meet July 31, 2026, to certify the results of the July 28, 2026, Primary Runoff Election and select precincts and contests for the post-election audit under SDCL 12-17B-20. Minutes are not yet published.
