Monroe County committees weigh MCC budget, hospital lease, and public safety grants
Monroe County lawmakers convened a full slate of committee meetings on July 27 and 28, with agendas covering the Monroe Community College operating budget, a hospital dialysis unit lease, and multiple public safety grants. Monroe Community College and Healthcare
The joint Recreation & Education and Ways & Means Committees met to consider approval of Monroe Community College's 2026-2027 operating budget following a public hearing. The committees also had local laws on the agenda to enact a negotiated lease with the University of Rochester for a dialysis unit at Monroe Community Hospital and to grant a property tax exemption for permanently and totally disabled veterans. Separately, the Human Services Committee was scheduled to vote on amending the 2026-2031 Capital Improvement Program for the MCH Dialysis Unity project.
Public Safety and Intergovernmental Agreements
The Public Safety Committee considered ten items, including a grant agreement with New York State for the purchase and installation of an air bottle fill station and radio equipment at the Monroe County Airport Fire Department. The committee also weighed accepting state and federal grants for the Gun Involved Violence Elimination Partnership, DNA capacity enhancement, and Operation Stonegarden. An amendment to increase an intermunicipal agreement with the Fairport Central School District for fuel purchases for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office was also on the agenda. The Intergovernmental Relations Committee reviewed the Operation Stonegarden grant from the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, as well as intermunicipal agreements with the towns of Greece, Irondequoit, and Webster.
Infrastructure and Airport Projects
The Transportation Committee discussed a contract for a traffic signal replacement at Ridgeway Avenue/Lee Road/Latona Road. The Environment & Public Works Committee reviewed several contracts for design services and equipment at the Frederick Douglass-Greater Rochester International Airport, including work with Passero Associates for canopy lighting and airport electrification, and Colliers Engineering and Design for fleet maintenance building improvements. The committee also discussed land appropriations by the State of New York at East Airport Road in Gates and Rochester, and the acquisition of easements for the Klem Road Culvert Replacement Project in Webster.
Human Services and Agriculture
The Human Services Committee was set to decide on contracts with Popli, Architecture + Engineering and DiMarco Constructors for the Medical Examiner Amers Building Expansion Project and Ames Building Expansion Project, respectively. The committee also considered additional funding from the NY State Office of Mental Health for mental health services contracts and a contract with United Way for the Monroe County Age Friendly Implementation Plan for Older Adults. The Planning & Economic Development Committee held a public hearing on authorizing additions to Monroe County Consolidated Agricultural District #5.
