Peoria advisory boards hold early August meetings; decisions pending
Peoria's Veterans Board and Youth Advisory Board held meetings in early August to handle administrative items, set goals for the coming year, and elect officers. No decisions have been reported because minutes have not yet been published for any of the meetings.
Veterans Board
On Aug. 5, the Veterans Board met for a regular meeting. The agenda included discussion and possible action on nominees for the 2026 Duane Danner Award, the board's work plan for fiscal year 2027, and the nomination and election of a chairman and vice chairman for the next fiscal year. The board also considered approving an absence for board member Joshua Lyons from the June 3 meeting and reviewed Arizona Open Meeting Law. The agenda also included updates on upcoming events and future agenda items. No financial actions were listed.
Youth Advisory Board
The Youth Advisory Board and two of its committees held special meetings on Aug. 8.
Full board
The full board received Open Meeting Law training led by Assistant City Attorney David Hubband. Members discussed retreat action items, including member expectations, bylaws, and board goals, and participated in teambuilding activities facilitated by staff and board officers. The agenda also included informational reports from staff, council liaisons, and board members. The board also considered approving excused absences for Aditi Sekar, Akshathram Vemana, Anika Navghare, and Sarah Adamsha, and an unexcused absence for Jacob Houg from the June 9 meeting, as well as approving minutes from that meeting. The agenda did not include major policy decisions or financial actions.
Civic Engagement Committee
The Civic Engagement Committee met to approve minutes from March 30, set goals for 2026-2027, and elect a chair and vice chair. The committee also identified future agenda topics. The meeting was open to public comment, but the committee cannot act on non-agenda items until a later meeting.
Community Outreach Committee
The Community Outreach Committee met to approve unexcused absences for Aditi Sekar, Akshathram Vemana, Emma Kaheh, Jacob Houg, and Naureen Singh from the May 18 meeting, approve minutes from that meeting, set goals for 2026-2027, and elect a chair and vice chair. The agenda was largely routine administrative business with no major policy decisions.
