Petersburg Council Eyes Property Purchases and School Funding; Recent Meetings Remain Without Published Minutes
Petersburg residents are waiting on official minutes from three City Council sessions held earlier this month, while the council prepares for a packed July 21 agenda that includes public hearings, property purchase resolutions, and a supplemental school funding vote.
Recent Meetings: No Published Minutes Yet
City Council met three times between July 7 and July 13, but minutes have not yet been published for any of the sessions. That means no confirmed votes or final decisions can be reported from these meetings.
On July 7, the council convened a closed session under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(3) to discuss acquisition or disposition of real property, and under §2.2-3711(A)(7)-(8) to receive legal advice on litigation and specific code sections. No public votes or decisions were scheduled.
Also on July 7, the council held a work session that included first readings and public hearing scheduling for two zoning ordinance amendments — one clarifying residential off-street parking design standards, and another clarifying criteria for certificates of appropriateness and historic district design guidelines. A first read was also scheduled for an amendment to the FY27 Grants Fund. The council received capital project updates on the W. July 21: Public Hearings and Purchase Resolutions
The council's regular session includes three public hearings: one on the ordinance amending residential off-street parking design standards, one on the ordinance updating historic district design guidelines and architectural review appeals, and one on the amendment to the FY27 Grants Fund.
The council is also scheduled to vote on a resolution authorizing the City Manager to issue a bona fide offer to purchase 139 Monroe Street for the Courthouse Project, and a resolution confirming intent to adopt a supplemental appropriation ordinance for additional funding to Petersburg City Public Schools for FY27.
