Perry Council approves watershed plan; rezoning, public works director on July 7 agenda

The Perry City Council at a special called meeting on June 23 unanimously adopted a combined Watershed Protection Plan for its two wastewater treatment facilities. The action, taken by Resolution No. 2026-46, was required by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division before the city could begin operations at the A.E. Harris Water Reclamation Facility on July 1, 2026. The council also unanimously approved Resolution No. 2026-47 to document an executive session regarding potential litigation.

Upcoming: July 7 Council Meeting

The City Council is scheduled to hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, July 7, with several items of business. A public hearing will be held on a request to rezone 1 acre at 2107 N Highway 41 from residential (R-3) to commercial (C-2). The council will also conduct a second reading of an ordinance amending Chapter 3 of the city code, which governs alcohol licensing.

Among the personnel actions, the council will consider appointing Nathan Farrow as Director of Public Works. Infrastructure contracts up for approval include amendments to GWES agreements for the East Perry regional pump station, Bear Branch pump station and force main upgrades, and East Perry wastewater treatment. Additionally, the council will consider a TSPLOST intergovernmental agreement and authorize a bid for a skid steer loader.

Before the regular meeting, the council will hold a pre-council session at an unspecified time to review the agenda. That agenda includes only procedural items such as call to order, roll call, citizens’ input, and an executive session.
