Randolph County boards weigh development rules, data centers, and rezoning requests
The Randolph County Board of Commissioners and Planning Board have held recent meetings with several items on their agendas, including updates to the Unified Development Ordinance, a rezoning request for a concrete batch plant, and the purchase of new ambulances. Board of Commissioners
At its Aug. 3 meeting, the Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on proposed updates to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The changes include aligning floodplain regulations with the state model, allowing temporary RVs during catastrophic events, adding regulations for data processing facilities, and modifying development impact analysis requirements. The Planning and Zoning Board has unanimously recommended approval.
The board also had on its agenda the purchase of three Crestline ambulances, a design proposal for a Welcome Center, expenditure of restricted funds for in-car and body-worn cameras, and budget amendments of $10,000 each for the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services.
Planning Board
On Aug. 4, the Planning Board held quasi-judicial hearings on two special use permits: a portable building for custom apparel sales at 837 Gold Hill Rd, and an academic school at Beulah Baptist Church on Howard Mill Rd.
The board also held legislative hearings on three rezoning requests:
- J&E Properties of NC LLC seeks to rezone 4.57 acres at 6788 Willard Rd from RA to HI-CD for a concrete batch plant.
- Dan W. Tanner II seeks to rezone 10.07 acres at Royalshire Ln from RA & RE to CVOE-CD for two additional lots.
- Chris Doerr seeks to rezone 1.28 acres on US Hwy 220 S from RR to RA.
The board also considered a consent agenda and received an update from the Planning Director.
Neighborhood meetings
On Aug. 6, the Planning and Development Department held informal neighborhood information meetings for two proposed subdivision rezoning requests: 4.73 acres on Staley Farm Rd for three new lots, and 10.01 acres at 1987 Old Plank Rd for two new lots.
