Searcy Council to set millage rates, weigh police station design as A&P mulls $30,000 in requests
Searcy city officials are set to make decisions this week on property tax rates, a new police station design, and funding for local events, according to agendas published for the Searcy City Council and other boards.
City Council to set millage, vote on police station contract
The Searcy City Council will hold three public hearings and vote on multiple items at its Aug. 11 meeting, including an ordinance setting the 2026 millage rates to be collected in 2027. The council will also consider certifying nuisance liens, applying for a state parks grant, and declaring a property at 508 W Woodruff a nuisance.
On the agenda is approval to fill two Parks & Recreation positions — a RAMP Manager and a Trails Coordinator — and a waiver of boundary street improvements for Hawks Homes at Taylor Road, Cartoon Drive, and Eastline Road. The council will also consider a change order for Janet Street intersection improvements in the amount of $10,266.08.
At its Aug. 6 meeting, the council had been scheduled to discuss a new police department design contract with Hoffmann Architecture, including design services and construction manager status, as well as a request for funds for asbestos testing at the Carmichael Center renovation. Other items on that agenda included a Danfoss Tax Back Economic Development Incentive resolution, school resource officer contracts for Riverview and Searcy School Districts, and the same millage ordinance. Minutes from that meeting have not yet been published.
Planning Commission reviews development, sidewalk waivers
The Searcy Planning Commission met Aug. 5 to consider a large-scale development application for Hawks Homes on Taylor Rd, Cartoon Dr, and Eastline Rd, submitted by Davidson Engineering. The commission also reviewed a request to waive sidewalk requirements for Veterans Blvd Storage at 1150 Veterans Blvd, submitted by Ferrell Stokes. The Board of Zoning Adjustment was scheduled to hear a variance request for a second entry for the same storage facility. Minutes have not yet been published.
A&P Commission weighs marketing proposal, event funding
The Searcy County A&P Commission met July 28 to consider a $12,500 marketing proposal with Food and Travel Magazine for Fall 2026 and Winter 2026/2027. The commission also reviewed two funding requests totaling $17,500: $7,500 for the Gym Masters Holiday Classic, presented by Lee Wimberley, and $10,000 for the Arkansas Cowboys Association Finals, presented by Corey Kurck. A funding recap for Robotics 2026 was also on the agenda, along with approval of minutes from the May 28 meeting. Minutes have not yet been published.
