Dewey Beach boards review investments, flood work, and eatery applications; no decisions yet
All four Dewey Beach meetings held over the past two weeks were agenda-only sessions, with minutes not yet published and no votes or decisions reported. Committees and the Town Council reviewed investment reports, flood-control projects, a temporary expansion request, and two eatery applications.
Finance Committee (Aug. 10)
The Finance Committee reviewed investment reports from Brown Advisory and discussed possible changes to the town's investments. Members also reviewed monthly financial reports and considered a draft request for proposals for an investment firm, as requested by the Town Council. The committee could have voted on investment changes and on forwarding recommendations to the council, but no outcome has been published.
Comprehensive Development Plan Committee (Aug. 12)
In a workshop, the committee discussed updates on a community survey and planned outreach events tentatively set for Sept. 18–19, 2026, including feedback stations and mapping. Members also coordinated fall speakers. The meeting was open for public comment and livestreamed.
Resiliency & Sustainability Committee (Aug. 20)
The committee received a status update on a resiliency project by GMB Engineering and discussed town projects to address flooding. Members also discussed potential involvement with the Marketing and Comprehensive Plan Committees, the new Town Hall and a possible open house, and beach cleanup. Public comment was taken before any formal action.
Town Council: Public hearing (Aug. 21)
The Town Council held a public hearing on several items:
- An application from The Starboard for a temporary expansion for the 15th Annual Dewey Goes Pink 5K, scheduled for Oct. 2–3, 2026.
- Two conditional use applications for eateries at 1601 Coastal Highway: one from Frozen Farmer, LLC for Unit 102, and one from Lennon Zuri, LLC (The Stoke Café) for Unit 104.
- Three draft ordinances: one defining "demolition" and criteria for determining demolition work; one defining "landing" and establishing permitted architectural projections and encroachments; and one on signage in residential districts.
The public was allowed to attend and testify. No council vote has been reported.
Coming up
- **Planning & Zoning Commission (Aug. 26):** Public hearings on regulating existing pool structures that do not meet town requirements under Ordinance No. 879, and on a draft ordinance to amend Chapter 185-25 regarding operating hours for alcohol-licensed establishments. The commission may vote on recommendations to the Town Council.
- **Candidates Forum (Aug. 29, 3–5 p.m.):** Hosted by the Dewey Beach Civic League at the Dewey Beach LifeSaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Incumbent commissioners will answer public questions. No voting or official action; livestreamed on YouTube and available via Zoom.
- **Marketing Committee (Sept. 1):** Discussion and possible action on Town Hall fundraising, participation in the End of Season Party (Sept. 19) and Dewey Dog Day (Sept. 20), holiday activities, and cooperation with the Comprehensive Development Plan and Resiliency & Sustainability Committees. Public comment will be taken before any formal action.
