Farr West weighs manufacturing rezone, accessory building permits
The Farr West City Council and Planning Commission are considering a proposal to rezone the Petersen Inc property at 1461 North 2000 West from A-1 to M-1 Manufacturing, along with a general plan amendment covering nine parcels and a conditional use permit for a new production line building. No decisions have been made yet; the recent meetings were agenda-only, with minutes not yet published.
Planning Commission work session and hearings (Aug. 13)
The Planning Commission held a joint work session with the City Council to discuss a proposed development on the A&E Brown property at approximately 1741 North 1200 West. The commission then held public hearings and made recommendations on:
- A general plan amendment to allow M-1 Manufacturing zoning for nine parcels: 15-004-0110, 15-004-0005, 15-004-0115, 15-004-0114, 15-005-0125, 15-005-0124, 15-005-0123, 15-005-0122, and 15-005-0121.
- A re-zone of the Petersen Inc property at 1461 North 2000 West from A-1 to M-1 Manufacturing.
- A conditional use permit for a new production line building at the same address.
- Setting public hearings for Aug. 27 for conditional use permits for accessory buildings over 2,000 square feet for Russell Lynch at 3683 North Higley Road and Troy Oram at 1496 North 1350 West.
The commission also considered amendments to landscaping requirements in the municipal code.
City Council agenda (Aug. 20)
The City Council held a joint work session with the Planning Commission to discuss a proposed development at 1410 North 1900 West. In its regular meeting, the council considered:
- The same general plan amendment for the nine parcels listed above.
- Ordinance No. 2026-16: re-zone the Petersen Inc property from A-1 to M-1 Manufacturing.
- A conditional use permit for the Petersen Inc production line building.
- Ordinance No. 2026-17: amend landscaping requirements in section 17.36.090 of the municipal code.
- Resolution No. 2026-08: approve the West Creek Interlocal Agreement with Marriott-Slaterville City.
No votes were taken; the agenda was published but minutes are not yet available.
Upcoming Planning Commission hearings (Aug. 27)
The Planning Commission will hold five public hearings at 6:30 p.m. at Farr West City Hall:
- Conditional use permits for accessory buildings over 2,000 square feet for Russell Lynch (3683 North Higley Road), Troy Oram (1496 North 1350 West), and Richard Dickerson (1482 North 1500 West).
- Proposed amendments to landscaping requirements in section 17.36.090.
- A re-zone of the Hector Coronado and Efrain Herrera property at 3229 North Higley Road (parcels 19-017-0089 and 19-017-0082) from A-1 to C-2 Commercial.
The commission will also set a public hearing for Sept. 10 for Anthony Smith's conditional use permit at 2184 West 2475 North.
