Taylorsville Faces $234,800 Property Tax Hearing Aug. 12; Planning Commission Took Up Zoning Changes on 1900 W.
Taylorsville residents have a consequential stretch of meetings ahead, headlined by an Aug. 12 Truth in Taxation public hearing on a proposed property tax increase of $234,800 per year. The City Council is scheduled to adopt the final budget and property tax levy that same evening.
Meanwhile, recent meetings from late July focused on procedural scheduling and zoning matters, though minutes have not yet been published for any of them.
Property Tax Hearing Set for Aug. 12
The City Council will hold a Truth in Taxation public hearing on Aug. 12, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall (2600 W Taylorsville Blvd). If approved, the city would collect an additional $234,800 annually — a 5.02% increase over last year's budgeted revenue excluding new growth.
For a median $498,000 residence, the annual city property tax would rise from $224.32 to $235.55, an increase of $11.23. For a business property of the same value, the tax would rise from $407.86 to $428.28, an increase of $20.42.
The same evening, the council is scheduled to consider Resolution No. 26-21, adopting the final property tax levy for 2026, and Resolution No. 26-22, amending and adopting the final budget for fiscal year 2026-2027. Planning Commission Addressed Zoning on S. 1900 W.
The Taylorsville Planning Commission met July 28 to hold public hearings on proposed zoning changes affecting three properties at 5718, 5766, and 5770 S. 1900 W.
The first hearing concerned a zoning text amendment (File #2Z25) to adopt Chapter 13.46, creating a new SSD-R 24-Hour Residential zoning district. The second hearing addressed a zoning map amendment to rezone those three properties from Regional Commercial to the new SSD-R 24-Hour Residential district. The map amendment file number appears as File #6Z26 in one agenda summary and File #3Z26 in another; minutes have not yet been published to confirm which designation applies.
A briefing session before the meeting was scheduled to include a recap of the accessory dwelling unit (DADU) ordinance workplan and a discussion of recent City Council meetings. The consent agenda included approval of minutes from the June 9, 2026, Planning Commission meeting.
Minutes for the July 28 meeting have not yet been published, so outcomes of the public hearings are not yet confirmed.
