West Point City Council weighs property tax increase, FY2027 budget; planning commission reviews sign, ADU rules
West Point city officials this month took up a proposed property tax increase and the FY2027 budget, while the Planning Commission reviewed subdivision applications and discussed updates to sign and accessory dwelling unit rules. No meeting minutes have been published yet, so final outcomes are not yet known.
Property tax rate and FY2027 budget
The City Council held a special budget meeting on Aug. 18 to consider adopting the 2026 property tax rate and the FY2027 final budget. The agenda included public hearings on the tax rate, the compensation schedule, and the budget itself.
The proposed tax rate would raise an additional $86,166 in annual revenue, a 9.73% increase over last year's budgeted revenue excluding eligible new growth. For a $552,000 residence, the proposed tax would rise from $215.86 to $236.81, an increase of $20.95. For a $552,000 business, the proposed tax would rise from $392.47 to $430.56, an increase of $38.09.
The council also considered Resolution No. 08-18-2026A adopting the property tax rate and Ordinance No. 08-18-2026A adopting the FY2027 final budget. Public hearings were held on the budget and the compensation schedule. No vote tallies or final decisions have been published.
Planning Commission work session
The Planning Commission held a work session on Aug. 13 to review subdivision applications and discuss proposed updates to the Sign Code and Accessory Dwelling Unit regulations. The general session was cancelled, so no formal action was taken. Minutes have not yet been published.
