Garfield County boards meet on audit, general plan, and permits
Over the past two weeks, the Garfield County Commission and the Garfield County Planning Commission held meetings, but minutes have not yet been published, so no decisions are confirmed. The most consequential items on the agendas were the county's 2025 audit report and a proposed new General Plan.
Recent meetings
Garfield County Commission — August 10
The commission's agenda included the 2025 audit report, a presentation on the Bryce ATV Rally by Carla Farnsworth, a discussion on a Rally for Utah Ranchers, a Human Services Board appointment, and accounts payable. All items were listed as agenda items; no minutes have been released.
Garfield County Planning Commission — August 19
The Planning Commission's agenda included a public hearing on proposed general plan amendments presented by Kirby Snideman of Place Builders, and two conditional use permit applications:
- A short-term rental permit for Way Out West Partners LLC at 595 S Old US Highway 89 in Hatch (Parcel 12-0011-0003).
- A home-based business permit for Timothy W. Een at 1255 N Burning Bright Rd in Panguitch, UT 84759 (Parcel 14-0064-0519).
The commission also held a separate public hearing on a proposed new Garfield County General Plan that would guide future land use, housing, transportation, and other long-range planning in unincorporated areas. The commission was scheduled to consider making a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners on adoption. As with the other meetings, minutes have not yet been published.

Garfield County Commission — August 24, 10:00 AM.
The Commission will hold its regular meeting today. The agenda includes:
- A General Plan Update discussion.
- Regional participation funding with Darin Bushman.
- A presentation from the Utah Public Lands Alliance by Mike Lamar.
- Business license applications for Force Automotive and Watch Me Grow Childcare.
- A possible executive session.
