Washington Parish Council approves no-thru truck routes, infrastructure agreements; Personnel Committee sends board appointments forward
Council acts on truck routes, roads, and recreation
The Washington Parish Council approved a package of infrastructure and policy measures at its July 27 meeting, all by 6-0 votes.
The most consequential action was Ordinance No. 26-789, which establishes "No-Thru Truck Routes" on specific parish roads. The council also approved minutes from its July 9, 2026, Special Council Meeting (6-0).
The council adopted five resolutions, all passing 6-0:
- **Resolution No. 26-1507** — CDL training workforce development stipends.
- **Resolution No. 26-1508** — A road rehabilitation agreement with Tangipahoa Parish for Cecil Painter Road.
- **Resolution No. 26-1509** — Schematic design for the Varnado Recreation Center, funded with opioid settlement funds.
- **Resolution No. 26-1510** — A bridge replacement agreement with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) for George Jenkins Road.
- **Resolution No. 26-1511** — A sidewalk segment agreement with DOTD for LA 25, identified as segment A2.
These measures affect truck traffic on parish roads, road and bridge maintenance, recreational facilities, and pedestrian infrastructure along LA 25.
Personnel Committee recommends appointments
Also on July 27, the Personnel Committee voted 3-0 on three items, all moving matters to the full Council.
The committee approved minutes from its March 23, 2026, meeting (3-0). It then voted to present a resolution to the full Council appointing William H. Arata, Ann Buckalew-Culpepper, Leslie Susan Pittman, and Judge David Duke to the 22nd Judicial District Children and Youth Planning Board (3-0). A separate 3-0 vote advanced a resolution appointing Abigail Kemp to the Washington Parish Library Board of Control.
These are recommendations only; the full Council would need to act on the resolutions for the appointments to take effect.
Planning Commission considers mobile home waivers
On July 21, the Washington Parish Planning Commission met to consider two waiver requests involving 1984 mobile homes. Jeremy Dillon requested a waiver to allow placement of a 1984 mobile home currently located in St. Tammany Parish. Willie Peters Jr. requested a waiver to permit a used 1984 mobile home on a .66-acre parcel.
The agenda also included approval of minutes from the June 9, 2026, regular meeting, staff reports, and public comment. Minutes from this meeting have not yet been published, so the outcomes of the waiver requests are not yet known.
