Wyoming County committees approve $338,000 bridge replacement, $75,000 septic grant, and multiple service contracts
Wyoming County Board of Supervisors committees met July 28–30, 2026, approving contracts and grants totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars across public works, human services, public health, and county administration. The largest single approved expenditure was a supplemental agreement for the Sheldon Bridge #35 replacement.
Public Works: Bridge Replacement and Facility Maintenance
The Public Works Committee approved a Supplemental Agreement (SLA) for the Sheldon Bridge #35 replacement, not to exceed $338,000, on a 6-0 vote. The committee also approved a pump rental contract with Xylem Dewatering Solutions not to exceed $10,000 (6-0) and two contracts with Johnson Controls Fire Protection for the Public Safety Building elevator project, each not to exceed $9,047.30 (5-0).
The committee authorized bidding for 2027 preventative maintenance contracts covering HVAC, generators, and pest control. A $3,500 appropriation for temporary office cleaning services passed 5-0. A safety improvement request from the Town of Java for Wethersfield Road and Route 98 was referred to the County Traffic Safety Board.
Human Services: Grants, Foster Care Contracts, and New Positions
The Human Services Committee approved two state grants: Family-Centered Case Management Services of at least $165,385.00 (6-0) and the Raise the Age Program up to $83,521.00 (6-0). A contract with Together for Youth for Residential Foster Care Services was approved up to $142,141.95 (6-0). The committee also approved a contract with Rector-Hicks Funeral Home for indigent funeral payments (6-0) and a contract with Optimal Therapy Associates Services for Preschool Related Services (6-0).
The committee authorized creation of three part-time Meal Site Manager positions at $16.00/hr (6-0). A $750 procurement card request for Deputy Director Loretta L. Butler and a $343.93 travel authorization for B. Dennis to attend the NYPWA Forum both passed 6-0.
Public Health: $75,000 Septic System Grant and Mental Health Contracts
The Public Health Committee authorized the Chairman to sign an intent letter accepting a $75,000 NY State Septic System Replacement Fund grant (7-0). The committee approved a contract with the Health Department for mental health and suicide prevention initiatives up to $10,000 (6-0) and a memorandum of understanding with the Mental Health Department for outreach and education up to $10,000 (7-0). A $3,125 appropriation for mental health/substance use programming passed 6-0, and a $60 appropriation for Mental Health Breakfast payments passed 6-0.
An EMS request for Opioid Settlement Funds was referred to the Public Safety Committee. Travel was approved for Commissioner Dr. Collins to attend the Public Health Leaders' Summit (7-0) and for Director R. Jines to attend the NYS Conference of Environmental Health Directors (7-0).
Human Resources: Service Awards Contract
The Human Resource Committee approved a $4,043.74 contract with Tackbary's Trophies for employee service trophies and pins (6-0). Members referred Local Law B (Defense and Indemnification and Official Undertaking Law) to the Committee of the Whole and noted the upcoming expiration of the Jail Division collective bargaining agreement.
Planning and Public Safety: Agendas Not Yet Voted
The Planning Committee agenda included a grant application with the NYS Office of Community Renewal for a Micro Enterprise Assistance Grant of at least $300,000, a proposed public hearing for that grant on September 8, 2026, and a contract with Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (esri) not to exceed $42,600 for 40 days of training. An offer letter was sent to an applicant to fill the ZEO position. Minutes for this meeting have not yet been published.
The Public Safety Committee agenda listed grant applications for $250,000 for two entry-level Deputy Sheriff positions and $51,600 for mental health support for first responders, a $16,144.80 contract with Motorola Solutions Inc. for a new server and software, and grant acceptances of $244,856 for Public Safety Answering Point Operations and $830,046 for Statewide Interoperable Communications.
