Yuba City Council weighs park closure, contracts, and election action
The Yuba City Council held three meetings in the past two weeks, but minutes have not yet been published, so no final decisions are confirmed. The agendas included a proposed temporary closure of Sam Brannan Park, several contract awards, and possible action on the election outcome for three council districts.
Sam Brannan Park closure
At a special meeting on Aug. 12, the council was set to consider a temporary closure of Sam Brannan Park effective Sept. 1, 2026. The agenda also included authorizing budget transfers of up to $265,000 for remediation and improvements. The meeting included a public comment period and council reports. No vote has been recorded.
Contracts, grants, and labor agreements
At the regular meeting on Aug. 18, the council held a closed session to discuss three liability claims. The open agenda included consent items and business items, including:
- Awarding a contract to Crafco, Inc. for a Patcher 4 Mastic Melter, not to exceed $134,398.80.
- Approving memoranda of understanding with police and fire associations, including one-time $2,250 payments to firefighters.
- Awarding a Verkada security hardware and installation contract, totaling $163,336.12.
- Awarding the WWTF Septage Receiving Station project to GSE Construction, with a base bid of $1,056,400.
- Rezoning APN 63-010-145 from C-O X19 to C-O at El Margarita Road and Colusa Highway.
Also on the agenda were a downtown memorandum of understanding, police grants, and a wastewater project agreement.
Election action for Districts 1, 2, and 3
At a special meeting on Aug. 20, the council considered action under Elections Code Section 10229 for Council Districts 1, 2, and 3. The council could appoint nominated candidates, direct an election, or take no action. The agenda was otherwise procedural, with public comment and standard formalities.
