II. Approval of Agenda
Member Gillikin m ade a motion to approve the May 6 , 202 6 regular meeting
agenda as amended to include “ Trusted Elections Town Hall Event ” under item
VIII . Secretary Cuthrell seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
III. Public Comment
Yolanda Lozano expressed concerns about the availability of curbside voting at the
Board of Elections Early Voting location and urged the board to reinforce the buffer
zone around the curbside voting area. The board directed staff to provide a written
response and address the concerns appropriately.
IV. Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the May 6 , 2026 Regular Meeting were presented for board approval.
Member Gillikin made a motion to approve the above referenced minutes as
presented . Secretary Cuthrell seconded the motion and the motion passed
unanimously.

At 10 a.m., the Carteret County Board of Commissioners convened in Special Meeting.
Chairman Chadwick called the meeting to order and stated that the purpose of the Special
Meeting was to appoint a Sheriff for Carteret County to fill the vacancy created by the
retirement of Sheriff Asa Buck. He then invited Clerk of Superior Court Ken Raper to lead the
Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Shad Barrow, Chaplain for the Carteret County Sheriffs Office
and pastor of Glad Tidings Church, delivered the invocation.

Commissioner Shinn made a motion to enter Closed Session pursuant to North Carolina
General Statutes:

The Carteret County Board of Commissioners will hold public hearings on a road name change and dangerous dog ordinance revisions, and continue discussion of the FY 2026-27 recommended budget. The consent agenda includes several budget amendments and contract approvals.

At 5:00 p.m., the Carteret County Board of Commissioners convened in a Special Meeting for
the purpose of a closed session in the Commissioners’ Conference Room, 302 Courthouse
Square. Proper public notice had been given.
Chairman Chadwick called the Special Meeting to order at 5 p.m.
Commissioner Moore made a motion to enter Closed Session pursuant to North Carolina
General Statutes:
