Senate. The federal government cut $80 million in mental health funding but then reversed it this week. However, the Senate had legislative hearings this week on federal changes to Medicaid and SNAP that could result in a 10-year potential cost to the state of 32 billion dollars. In North Carolina, there are 3.1 million people on Medicaid and 1.5 million receive SNAP benefits. The State will have to cover administrative costs that are no longer being covered at the federal level, and the payment error rate will also cause additional State costs, Commissioner Andre Knecht arrived at 6:05 p.m. Senator Burgin said the Senate still does not have a budget and North Carolina is the only state that doesn't have one yet. There are several issues being discussed legislatively. There are legislators wanting fo put caps on property taxes, though he feels that rezoning, taxes, and revaluations should stay with the counties.
