Public Safety Committee

The committee approved a proposed ordinance to prohibit occupying public rights-of-way and stopping vehicles to make contact in those areas. Members discussed ambulance staffing needs and fire department equipment maintenance costs.

Library Board

The Board approved the use of fund balance dollars for an equity leadership residency and the Kanopy service. It also approved an early closing on January 28 for the Loud in the Library event. Staff reported that Sally Buffat and Tiffany Helgerson will serve as acting co-interim directors.

City Council

The Monona City Council will consider an ordinance to amend no-parking areas on Edna Taylor Parkway to allow parking on the east side near the dog park, improving pedestrian safety. The council will also discuss a possible ordinance regulating short-term rental properties and consider updates to the fees, fines, and penalties schedule. A closed session is scheduled to deliberate a development agreement with Springhaven Ave, LLC.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a street yard setback variance for Jeff and Mary Jacobson to build a 216 sq. ft. addition. The board cited unique lot limitations and the need for a home office as the basis for the decision.

Parks & Recreation Board

The Parks & Recreation Board reviewed several scheduling options for the Winnequah Park Tennis Courts based on survey feedback and staff proposals. The board reached a consensus and voted to adopt option #3.

Sustainability Committee

Public Works Committee

The committee approved switching street parking to the east side of Edna Taylor Parkway following a user survey. The DPW Director will also review marking options for the turn from Femrite into Edna Taylor Parkway. No action was taken regarding the survey map for Tonyawatha Trail.

The Monona City Council will consider rezoning 4601–4711 Monona Drive from Retail Business to Community Design District for a 93-unit mixed-use project called The Bloom, with 16,000 square feet of commercial space. Additionally, the council will consider extending the Ad-Hoc Workgroup on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and updating its name.

Community Development Authority
