14 a. Case No. ZBA-26-17-ZA - 107 Bertling Lane: An application seeking approval of a zoning variation to
15 allow the one-for-one replacement of the existing nonconforming deck for the property at 107 Bertling Lane.
16 Mr. Mangum stated the request is to replace a deck 1:1 and asked for the applicant’s presentation. The applicant,
17 Bruce Chase, stated the existing deck is old and was repainted when the home was purchased. He stated
18 refinishing the deck did not solve the problem and they decided to replace it with a synthetic deck. Mr. Chase
19 stated he did not realize it was nonconforming and the replacement deck would make the southwest stairway
20 slightly wider and it would have two railings. He stated repositioning the deck is difficult and would be cost
21 prohibitive. He estimated the home’s construction to be 1914 or 1917. They also discussed the fact that the
22 driveway is next to the deck and trees which represented another barrier.

1) Call to Order. President Pro Tem Apatoff called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Village
Manager Kristin Kazenas called the roll. Present: Trustees Kirk Albinson, Rob Apatoff,
Kim Handler, Scott Myers and Bridget Orsic. Absent: President Bob Dearborn and Trustee

property line along Mt. Pleasant Street. The Village Council has final jurisdiction on this request. This 27
item was continued from the April 13, 2026, Zoning Board of Appeals meeting. The Applicant is 28

REGULAR MEETING

A record of a legally convened meeting of the Council of the Village of Winnetka, which was held
at Council Chambers on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM.
1) Call to Order. President Dearborn called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Village Manager
Kristin Kazenas called the roll. Present: Trustees Kirk Albinson, Rob Apatoff, Tina
Dalman, Kim Handler, Scott Myers and Bridget Orsic. Absent: None. Also present:
Deputy Village Manager Hannah Lipman, Deputy Village Clerk Berina Gradjan, Village
Attorney Peter Friedman, Community Development Director Scott Mangum, and
approximately 4 people in the audience.
2) Pledge of Allegiance. President Dearborn led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
3) Village Clerk’s Report: Election Results
Village Manager Kristin Kazenas reported the results of the March 17, 2026 Primary
Election: Robert Apatoff, Kristina Dalman, and Kimberly Handler, were elected Village
Trustees.
4) Village Clerk to Administer Oath of Office to Trustee Robert Apatoff, Trustee Kristina
Dalman, and Trustee Kimberly Handler
Village Manager Kazenas administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected Village
officials.
