Flagstaff boards elect officers, approve minutes; several July meetings canceled
Flagstaff's advisory bodies held a light round of meetings over the past two weeks, with the Parks & Recreation Commission electing new leadership and the Planning & Zoning Commission approving prior minutes. Several other scheduled meetings were canceled, and a number of bodies met only in agenda form with no published minutes yet.
Parks & Recreation Commission
On July 20, the Parks & Recreation Commission elected Commissioner Christensen as Chair and Commissioner Diab as Vice Chair, both by unanimous vote. The commission also approved minutes from its June 15, 2026 meeting.
Members reviewed the results of the 2026 Fourth of July Drone Show and the FY27 deferred maintenance project list. No new funding was identified for a 2027 drone show.
Planning & Zoning Commission
The Planning & Zoning Commission met July 22 and unanimously approved minutes from its May 17, 2026 meeting, voting 5-0.
Members held a discussion regarding a proposed Planned Community Zone intended to allow flexibility for master-planned development. No action was taken on the proposal.
City Council
The City Council has scheduled special meetings for July 31. One agenda item is Resolution No. 2026-43, which would adopt the results of the July 21, 2026 Primary Election. The council may also provide direction following a separate executive session held the same day for a litigation update with attorneys. Minutes from these meetings have not yet been published, so no outcomes are confirmed.
Meetings canceled
Two regularly scheduled meetings were canceled:
- **Housing Commission** — July 23 meeting canceled. The next regularly scheduled meeting is August 13, 2026. No items were discussed or decided.
- **Sustainability Commission** — July 23 meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the Staff Conference Room and via Microsoft Teams was canceled. No substantive items were listed.
