Historic District Commission approves 24 Church Road project; Planning Board to weigh 35-unit apartment complex
The only board to reach recorded decisions in the past two weeks was the Historic District Commission, which unanimously approved a property improvement project at 24 Church Road. Several other Bedford boards met or are scheduled to meet on items ranging from voter checklist verification to a proposed 35-unit apartment building.
Historic District Commission — July 7
The commission accepted the agenda as printed and then approved a request to replace the front doors and install a shed roof over the garage doors at 24 Church Road, Lot 20–29–1. Approval was subject to conditions on timing, permits, and photo documentation. Both actions passed unanimously. No vote tally beyond "unanimous" was recorded in the available minutes.
Supervisors of the Checklist — July 8
The Supervisors of the Checklist met to verify the annual voter checklist as required by RSA 654:39. The body also accepted new voter registration applications and processed requests for checklist corrections. Planning Board — July 13
The Planning Board was scheduled to consider three items: a sign permit request from Heavens Gas Station at 381 Boynton Street, a 15-lot residential subdivision at 410 Wallace Road, and a 35-unit apartment building with workforce housing at 9 Sunset Lane. Minutes have not yet been published, so outcomes are not yet confirmed.
Town Council — July 15
The Town Council agenda included an update from the Assessing Department on the 2026 property revaluation, a discussion regarding a request to defer a Congressionally Directed Spending Grant for photovoltaic storage and electric-vehicle charging stations, the disposition of the Bedford 275th-anniversary celebration banners, and consideration of NHMA Legislative Policies. The council also listed other new business items, old business, and minutes review. Minutes have not yet been published.

Zoning Board — July 21: The board will hear five variance requests. They include a car-storage home occupation in a detached structure at 106 Jenkins Road, Lot 39–21 (Z&R); a porch front-setback reduction to 23 ft at 8 Rockbound Road, Lot 5–10–60 (Z&R); two variances for a 970 sq ft garage addition at 60 Old Bedford Road, Lot 44–69–23 (GR), one 7 ft from the side property line and one 5 ft from the rear property line; and a variance to allow construction of a PET/CT facility within wetland setback at 318 South River Road, Lot 24–98–20 (PZ). No decisions have been made prior to the hearing.
Facilities Subcommittee — July 30: The committee will adopt its purpose and mission, elect a chair and vice-chair, discuss hiring a contractor to assist the committee, and review March survey results. It will also review site considerations, coordinate with the Communication Committee, and set future meeting dates.
