Castle Rock Town Council to weigh King Soopers site plan, annexation
Castle Rock's boards and commissions met several times over the past two weeks, but minutes from those meetings have not yet been published, so no decisions are reported here. The Town Council is scheduled to meet Aug. 18 with a substantial agenda, including a King Soopers grocery store site plan and annexation of town-owned land.
Recent meetings
Historic Preservation Board – The Aug. 5 regular meeting was cancelled. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2.
Public Safety Commission – Met Aug. 6. The agenda included approval of the July 2 meeting minutes and the June 2026 monthly reports from the Castle Rock Fire Department and Police Department.
Board of Adjustment – Met Aug. 6. The agenda included a public hearing on a variance request to exceed the maximum allowed fence height at 249 S Larkspur Drive in an R-1 single-family zone, election of a chair and vice chair for the 2026-2027 term, and approval of the May 7 meeting minutes.
Design Review Board – The Aug. 12 regular meeting was cancelled. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 26 at 6 p.m.
Planning Commission – Met Aug. 13. The agenda included public hearings on two site development plans: a King Soopers grocery store on a 12.1-acre lot in Dawson Trails (at the Dawson Trails Boulevard/Gambel Ridge Boulevard intersection) and a 112-acre Chateau Valley development east of Memmen Park. The commission also considered approving the July 23 meeting minutes and received updates from the Town Council and Design Review Board.
Upcoming Town Council meeting
The Town Council will meet Aug. 18 and is scheduled to hold public hearings and take action on several items:
- A resolution approving a site development plan for a King Soopers grocery store and fueling station on 12.1 acres in Dawson Trails.
- An ordinance annexing 16.12 acres of town-owned land (Home Street, Maher Ranch Tank Site, Founders Corner, Terrain Remnant).
- A resolution approving a purchase and sale agreement with Findlay Family Properties for the Plum Creek to Rueter-Hess Pipeline (Promenade Commercial Area).
- An ordinance amending the municipal code on school land/cash fees (first reading).
- An ordinance adopting a new chapter on public nuisances (first reading).
The agenda also includes consent items for service agreements and a purchase agreement, plus a discussion on removing the Design Review Board and an update on the Comprehensive Master Plan 2040.
