Goleta boards review chapel, carwash, and library programs; council to weigh Camino Real plan
Goleta's advisory boards and commissions met over the past two weeks to review a proposed chapel and church campus, a carwash and cell tower design, and library programs. Planning Commission weighs Anthem Chapel, church campus
The Planning Commission held a public hearing Aug. 10 on a proposed community assembly facility for Anthem Chapel and parking lot improvements at Christ Lutheran Church, 6595 Covington Way. The agenda recommended denial of the Anthem Chapel project with a CEQA exemption, and approval of a Conditional Use Permit Amendment and Development Plan Amendment for the church campus. Design Review Board takes up carwash, cell tower, storage, clinic signage
The Design Review Board met Aug. 11 to review four proposals: signage for Cottage Medical Clinics at 444 S Patterson Ave; a Chevron automatic carwash at 6895 Hollister Ave; an AT&T telecommunications facility disguised as a 50-foot faux water tower at 290 Ellwood Canyon Rd; and a Goleta Self Storage project at 7780 Hollister Ave. The board was to make design and environmental findings, with some items going to the Planning Commission or Zoning Administrator. It also approved minutes from July 28.
Library Advisory Commission reviews programs, schedules
The Library Advisory Commission met Aug. 3 to approve minutes, receive the City Librarian's report, and discuss the Goleta Valley Library ADA and building improvement project and Interior Design Capital Campaign. It also discussed a Student Success Card program proposal and adopted the 2027 meeting schedule.
Public Art Review Board holds first meeting
The Public Art Review Board convened for the first time Aug. 11, receiving a presentation on the city's Public Art Policy and the board's role. Members selected a Chair and Vice Chair.
City Council closed session on potential lawsuit
The City Council met Aug. 12 in closed session to discuss anticipated litigation under Government Code Section 54956.9(d)(2) and (e)(2). The matter involves the city's approval of a business license for Goodland Guns' relocation to 7443 Hollister Ave, and related public statements threatening litigation. Coming up: City Council to consider Camino Real plan, contracts
The City Council will meet Aug. 18 and hold a public hearing on whether to initiate an applicant-requested amendment to the Camino Real Specific Plan (Case No. 26-0001-SP) to align with the 2023 Santa Barbara Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan and remove outdated references. The consent calendar includes a $500,000 agreement with Ingram Library Services LLC for library materials, a $209,670 increase to UNICO Engineering's contract for the San Jose Creek Multipurpose Path Project, an $85,000 agreement with Corporation for Supportive Housing to update the Homelessness Strategic Plan, and authorization to advertise bids for the Ellwood Mesa Trail Erosion Repair Project.
