Hinckley officials weigh water infrastructure, garage variance; board to act Aug. 10
Hinckley village officials this week are weighing several infrastructure and property items, including a lead line replacement program and the purchase of radio readers for water meters, while a zoning board hearing on an oversized garage drew public comment. Village Board agenda: water infrastructure and library agreement
The Hinckley Village Board met July 27 with an agenda that included two significant spending items: a lead line replacement program not to exceed $53,000 and the purchase of radio readers and backup equipment not to exceed $72,000. The board also discussed a license agreement with the Hinckley Public Library and a letter of intent for the Community Building. Minutes from that meeting have not yet been published, so no vote results are available.
A separate Committee of the Whole meeting held the same day was procedural, with the only substantive item being a discussion of landscaping at Village Hall and Pioneer Park. The committee approved minutes from its July 13 meeting.
Planning Commission and Zoning Board review plans and variance
On Aug. 3, the Planning Commission met to review the Comprehensive Plan and discuss results of a community survey. The commission also approved minutes from its July 6 meeting. No decisions were recorded in the agenda.
The Zoning Board of Appeals held a public hearing the same day on a variance request from Mike and Donna Kimpan to build a detached garage at 140 Slater Avenue (PIN 15-14-307007) that exceeds the maximum size allowed by ordinance. The board took public comment and was scheduled to vote on a recommendation, but the outcome has not been published.

The Village Board will hold its regular meeting Aug. 10, with several items on the agenda: a ZBA recommendation for 140 Slater, a skid steer purchase, asphalt quotes for parking lots, a salt bid, a road closure application, and approval of minutes and invoices. The board may also discuss real estate acquisition in executive session.
Immediately after the board meeting, the Committee of the Whole will meet to discuss a Public Works truck purchase. That meeting is for discussion only, with no formal votes scheduled. The agenda also includes approval of the July 27 committee minutes and reports from village officials and committees.
