Lawrence County commissioners approve highway vacation, budget hires, and museum transfer
Lawrence County commissioners approved a highway vacation, a road district boundary change, several personnel actions, and an $8,500 contingency transfer for the Black Hills Mining Museum at their July 14 meeting, according to official minutes.
County Commissioner & Board of Adjustment — July 14
The board approved Resolution #2026-17 to vacate a portion of a highway and Resolution 2026-18 for a minor boundary adjustment to the Boulder Park Road District. Both passed unanimously.
Commissioners approved a $8,500 contingency transfer to the Professional Service budget for the Black Hills Mining Museum. That motion carried 3–2.
Personnel actions were unanimous:
- A step raise for Dispatcher Sarah Bestgen to $25.30/hr.
- The hire of part-time Correctional Officer Tayleigh Hopkin at $25.80/hr.
- A travel request for Kevin Bowen to attend the 2026 Annual Benefit School.
The board also approved an abatement for Brenten & Robin Lavelle on parcel #20900-00602-310-00 and granted a utility permit for Excel Construction LLC for underground facilities under Maitland Road. Both passed unanimously.
Search & Rescue Board — July 6
The Search & Rescue Board approved its meeting agenda and June 2026 minutes and accepted the June 2026 financial report, which showed an ending balance of $18,451.73. The board recorded two call-outs for June 2026.
Fair Board — July 6
The Fair Board's July 6 agenda listed discussion of updates on siding, buildings, and the arena, along with consideration of judge pay for 2026.
