Lomita Roundup: Sales Tax Certification, Sewer Repairs, and Zoning Changes on the Agenda
Lomita's recent government meetings covered sales tax certification, emergency sewer repairs at Lomita Manor, and zoning code updates. Because minutes have not yet been published for the July 7, 13, and 14 meetings, outcomes are not yet confirmed — the items below reflect what was scheduled for consideration.
City Council — July 7
The City Council was scheduled to certify the results of the June 2 special municipal election, in which voters approved a ¼ cent transactions and use tax. The Council was also set to authorize agreements with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration to implement the tax.
Other items on the agenda included:
- A Professional Services Agreement with GeoLogic Associates for $159,773 for geotechnical engineering on the Palos Verdes Drive North hillside stabilization project.
- Purchase of public works equipment — a stump grinder, dump bed replacement, skid steer loader, and hydraulic breaker — and installation of automated security gates at the Public Works Yard and Cypress Water Production Facility.
- A zoning text amendment to update planned residential development, division of land, and senior/multi-family housing standards to conform with the City's Housing Element.
- Establishment of park and sewer development impact fees and a public art in-lieu fee for private development.
Housing Authority — July 7
The Lomita Housing Authority was set to approve emergency expenditures to repair a sewer line affecting units 215-A and 315-A at Lomita Manor. The consent agenda included approval of minutes from March 3, May 5, and related special meetings, plus April, May, and June financial documents for Lomita Manor. May and June activity reports were to be received and filed. No public hearings were scheduled.
Planning Commission — July 13
The Planning Commission held public hearings on two items:
- **Zone Variance No. 248** — a request to widen an existing driveway from the maximum 16 feet to 20 feet at 24317 Alliene Avenue in the R-2 zone. The project was found categorically exempt from CEQA.
- **Amendment to Resolution PC 2025-04** — removal of Condition No. 12, which required a shared driveway for two previously approved residences with accessory dwelling units at 25307 Oak Street. This item was recommended for City Council approval and was also found categorically exempt from CEQA.
The consent agenda included approval of minutes from the June 8, 2026 meeting.
Water Subcommittee — July 14
The Lomita Water Subcommittee met to discuss an update on the Cypress Water Production Facility Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Project. No votes or decisions were scheduled; the item was for discussion only.
