Morgan Hill: Council meeting cancelled, library commission adopts minutes, 105-unit project before planners

The past two weeks of Morgan Hill public meetings produced no new spending or land-use decisions in the records available. The Library, Culture, and Arts Commission adopted minutes and received reports, the City Council's Oct. 7 regular meeting was cancelled, and the Planning Commission's Oct. 13 agenda listed public hearings on a 105-unit subdivision and a General Plan amendment — but no minutes of that meeting have been published, so what the commission did, or whether it acted, is not established by the records on hand.

Library, Culture, and Arts Commission: minutes adopted

At its Oct. 6 meeting, the commission adopted its agenda on a 4-0 vote and accepted the minutes of its Sept. 1, 2026, meeting on a 4-0 vote, according to the official minutes.

The commission also received reports from the County Librarian, the Morgan Hill Library, the Friends of the Morgan Hill Library, the Morgan Hill Historical Society, and the City of Morgan Hill. Commissioners discussed possible participation in Make Music Day 2027 and reviewed scheduling for the 2027 Art a la Carte event. The minutes record discussion of those two items; no action was taken on them.

City Council: Oct. 7 meeting cancelled

The regular City Council meeting scheduled for Oct. 7, 2026, was cancelled. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026.

Planning Commission: subdivision and General Plan amendment on the agenda

The Planning Commission's Oct. 13 agenda listed public hearings on a proposed 105 single-family detached units on a 15.8-acre site (Cochrane-DePaul Residences/High Street) and on General Plan Amendment GPA2026-0004 to the Natural Resources and Environment Element.

The agenda also listed feedback on MTC's Regional Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC) policy for affordable housing, proposed amendments to Title 17.36 regarding Condominium Conversion, and review of the CAPS Recommendations Report for the Safety, Services & Infrastructure Element. Because minutes have not been published, this roundup does not report any outcome on these items.

Parks & Recreation Commission — Tuesday, Oct. 20. The commission will receive a presentation from the Youth Action Council and an update on youth and teen matters. Members will also give updates on their current work plans and consider approval of the Sept. 15, 2026, meeting minutes.

City Council — Wednesday, Oct. 21. The council will hold public hearings on the 15.8-acre subdivision to construct 105 residential lots and on a proposed 22-month and 15-day moratorium on new land use applications for free standing data centers and grid-scale battery energy storage systems.

The council is also scheduled to vote on an agreement with Odyssey Power Corporation for generator maintenance not to exceed $430,935; on-call fencing maintenance agreements with Silicon Valley Paving, Inc. and Tucker Construction, Inc. for $220,000 each; and acceptance of a $215,000 VTA grant for fleet chargers at the Corporation Yard.

Parks Commission Approves Routine Items; Council to Weigh $798K Grant, Booster Station Design

The only formal decisions this week came from the Parks and Recreation Commission, which approved routine items and discussed but did not act on a possible funding shift for park bathroom maintenance. The City Council is set to consider several significant items at its next meeting, including a $798,000 CAL FIRE grant and a $671,147 engineering contract.

Parks and Recreation Commission (Aug. 18)

The commission adopted its agenda and accepted the June 16, 2026 meeting minutes, both by 7-0 votes. During a maintenance update, commissioners discussed the possibility of reducing funding for other services to support bathroom maintenance in additional park facilities, but no formal decision was made. The commission also received reports on facility rentals and work plan updates.

Planning Commission (Aug. 11)

The Planning Commission held a public hearing on a tentative subdivision map for 320 residential lots on a 69.4-acre site at the northwest quadrant of Hill Road and Barrett Avenue (APN 817-20-031). City Council (Aug. 19)

The City Council is scheduled to meet in closed session on potential litigation over complaints about a council member, followed by a regular meeting. The agenda includes several significant items:

• Accept a $798,000 CAL FIRE grant for fuel reduction, with a $998,000 budget amendment.
• Approve a $671,147 contract with HydroScience Engineers for the Condit and Llagas booster station design.
• Approve an impact fee freeze agreement with Regency Centers for a 55,314-square-foot retail project at Cochrane and DePaul roads.

Planning Commission (Aug. 25)

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a Master Sign Program request for the Poppy Ranch Commercial Shopping Center, located on the southwest corner of Cochrane Road and DePaul Drive (APN 728-31-017, -018, -019). The request includes a freeway sign. The commission is expected to adopt a resolution approving the sign program if the request is granted.
