Nichols Hills boards take up housing, spending, and permits
Nichols Hills city boards met over the past week to consider a range of items, from a proposed housing development and more than $1.2 million in city spending to building permits and a canceled meeting. No minutes have been published for any of the meetings, so all actions remain pending.
City Council
The City Council on Aug. 11 held public hearings on a Planned Unit Development (PUD) for 1203 Sherwood Lane, proposed by Strand on Sherwood, LLC, and on an ordinance to close a portion of the Strand right-of-way. The council also heard a continued public hearing on a proposed Westminster Overlay District, which had been forwarded from the Planning Commission.
In addition, the council considered approving total warrants and claims of $1,262,781.64. That list included several construction pay estimates: Pay Estimate No. 5 for the Public Works Addition from Globe Construction at $201,740.10; Pay Estimate No. 2 for Westminster Place paving from Rudy Construction at $163,800.95; and a final pay application for Westminster Park from Rudy Construction at $92,913.96.
The council also had on its agenda the purchase of three security cameras for Kite Park at up to $30,000, and the purchase and upfitting of six code inspection vehicles at up to $24,000.
Municipal Authority
The Municipal Authority, meeting the same day, considered approving a claims list for the 2026-2027 fiscal year totaling $178,871.97, along with the July 2026 financial statements. The authority also considered a contract for engineering and testing services with Standard Testing & Engineering, LLC.
Building Commission
The Building Commission met Aug. 18 to review three Certificate of Approval applications: for 1811 Guilford Lane, 1724 Huntington Avenue, and 1702 Dorchester Place. The commission also discussed construction fence and erosion control measures, and was scheduled to elect a Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Public comment was on the agenda, and the commission reviewed minutes from its July 21 meeting.
Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment's regular meeting scheduled for Aug. 19 was canceled. No items were listed for discussion or action.
Coming up
The Environment, Health & Sustainability Commission will meet Aug. 26. The agenda includes a vote on a hazardous household waste and recycling event, as well as approval of minutes from the May 27 meeting. The meeting is open to the public.
