Orange County boards take up permits, tax relief, and zoning rules
Orange County's Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors met this past week to consider a range of items, including two special use permits, a tax relief resolution, and a discussion of agricultural zoning rules. No final decisions have been reported, as minutes from these meetings have not yet been published.
Planning Commission (Aug. 6)
The Planning Commission's agenda included two special use permit applications:
- **SUP-2026-00524** – The Nester Company, LLC requested permission to construct an automatic carwash facility on Route 3 in Locust Grove.
- **SUP-2026-00541** – Phillip Silva requested permission to operate an automotive repair garage at 7130 Spotswood Trail in Gordonsville.
The commission also held discussions on the Comprehensive Plan Vision Statement, led by Chairman DiPasquale, and on research concerning Mountainside Communities, led by Commissioner Rhett. In addition, members reviewed current planning projects, including the Wilderness Shores Proffer Amendment and The Glenn at Land's End.
Board of Supervisors (Aug. 11)
The Board of Supervisors met in regular session and in a worksession on the same day.
Regular meeting
The board's agenda included:
- A resolution for the Personal Property Tax Relief Act (PPTRA) for 2026.
- A subordination agreement request to substitute a portion of the construction loan for the Madison Road Housing Project.
- A disaster recovery service contract.
- A Regional Drug Court OAA Grant MOU and operational agreement.
- A public hearing on special use permit application SUP 2026-00527.
No votes or decisions were reported from this meeting.
Worksession
The board held a worksession to discuss the Agricultural (A) Zoning District, led by Assistant Director of Development Services Alyson Simpson. This was listed as a discussion item only, not a final decision.
