Port Jefferson boards take up condo project, parking, and fire code update
Port Jefferson's boards held work sessions and hearings this week, but no decisions have been reported yet — minutes from the Aug. 12 and Aug. 20 meetings have not been published. The most consequential item on the table is a proposed 77-unit condominium development at the former Maryhaven site, which the Planning Board heard on Aug. 20.

The Planning Board held a public hearing on Aug. 20 for a major subdivision at 340 East Broadway (four lots, PB-0767-25) and continued a hearing for "Harbor Cove at Maryhaven" at 450 Myrtle Avenue — a 77-unit condominium development in 12 buildings (PB-0766-25). The board also reviewed draft resolutions for a site plan amendment at 100 Thompson Street (the library, PB0020-26) and for "The Baxter" at 1506-1512 Main Street, a 40-unit mixed-use building (PB-0757-25). New applications were introduced for tree clearing at 98 Soundview Drive and 111 North Country Road, site plan amendments at 12 Stern Drive and 1 Reeves Road, a retaining wall at 27 Pilgrim Drive, and "The Overlook" mixed-use project.
Board of Trustees work session: parking, fees, capital plan
At its Aug. 12 work session, the Board of Trustees' agenda included discussion of metered parking throughout the village, proposed updated code fees, and a proposed updated debt schedule and capital plan. The board also had resolutions to re-appoint Chris Ryon as Docent for the Drowned Meadow Cottage Museum at $1,500 per grant year, and to approve a Kyocera copier lease from Brothers II at $149 per month for 39 months. The board entered executive session for personnel and legal matters.
Citizens Commission on Erosion: bluff and building reports
The Citizens Commission on Erosion met Aug. 20 to review minutes from May and July and receive updates on bluff replanting and monitoring. The commission discussed payment and maintenance responsibilities for the bluff, the structural report and Phase II plan for the GEI Community Center building (including cost estimates), the status of the Planning Department's environmental ordinance, and the GEI Annual Report for 2025. No new ordinances or contracts were listed for a vote.
Coming up: Fire code public hearing
The Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on Aug. 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Village Hall, 121 West Broadway, to consider a proposed local law amending Chapter 139 (Fire Prevention) of the Village Code to align with the New York State Fire Code.
