Broadwater County boards meet on detention, budgets, and fair review
Broadwater County's Fair Board, Rural Fire District, and County Commissioners all held meetings in the past two weeks, but none of the minutes have been published yet, so no official decisions are available. The agendas, however, included several items of note: a proposed interlocal agreement for adult detention services with Lewis and Clark County, a review of the Townsend K12 School District's FY27 budget, and a preliminary budget for the rural fire district.
Fair Board (Aug. 13)
The Broadwater County Fair Board met to review the 2026 fair, including signage for parking and access points, and entertainment. The agenda also included a budget update, a memorandum of understanding with the Rodeo Board, 4-H building maintenance items, and a rentals update. No minutes have been published.
Rural Fire District (Aug. 19)
The Broadwater Rural Fire District board reviewed its preliminary budget and considered unfinished business, including a VFC Grant and a mutual aid agreement with the City of Townsend. The agenda included station reports from Winston, Duck Creek, Townsend, Toston, Radersburg, and Park Trail. New business included a proposed fire district for the Grassy Mountain subdivision, repairs to the Radersburg Station roof, and repairs to the radiator on truck #531.
County Commissioners (Aug. 19)
The County Commissioners met to consider an interlocal agreement with Lewis and Clark County for adult detention services. They also reviewed the Townsend K12 School District's FY27 budget, presented by Superintendent Brad Racht. The agenda included a resolution for the appointment of special deputy county attorneys, a preliminary plat approval request for the Western Montana Estates Minor Subdivision (S36 T4N R1E), and a subdivision exemption application.
Coming up
The County Commissioners have no regular meeting on Aug. 26. Instead, a working meeting with County Administrative Officer Bill Jarocki is scheduled for Aug. 25 to discuss projects and deadlines. The agenda lists routine consent items, including a certificate of survey review, claims, payroll, minutes, county audit and budget, and ongoing contracts and grants. Public comment is allowed on non-agenda matters per MCA 2-3-202.
