Carroll County supervisors approve school budget, discuss data center zoning
The Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved the FY27 school budget and several appropriations at its Aug. 3 meeting, while also discussing potential zoning changes for data centers and other uses. The board approved the FY27 School Budget. Supervisor Collins declared a conflict of interest on the item. The board also approved a PSA Debt Reserve Appropriation, a PSA Water to Sewer Appropriation, and appropriations for Highway Safety Carryover and Year End Audit Preparation.
Zoning and data centers
In a joint meeting with the Planning Commission, the board discussed a draft zoning ordinance that would allow data centers only in industrial zones with a conditional use permit. The board emphasized that any adoption would require public hearings. No vote occurred. Citizens raised concerns about water usage, power availability, and non-disclosure agreements.
