Santa Cruz County supervisors weigh budget, grants, election results
The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors held three meetings in the past two weeks, taking up a proposed county budget, multiple grant agreements, and certification of the July 21 primary election. No final decisions have been reported because minutes have not yet been published for any of the sessions.
Budget adoption and tax rates
At a special meeting on Aug. 5, the board held a public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget. The agenda included a Truth in Taxation hearing, Resolution No. 2026-09 to adopt the budget, Resolution No. 2026-10 designating the Chief Fiscal Officer for the Expenditure Limitation Report, and adoption of tax rates for jurisdictions within Santa Cruz County. These items were scheduled for discussion and possible action.
Grants and other business
At its regular meeting the same day, the board considered several professional services and grant agreements:
- $98,130 for a Professional Services Agreement with EPIC for an Early Child Care Strategic Action Plan
- $490,533 from the City of Tucson for the HIDTA program and Investigative Task Force
- $193,753 for the Arizona Parents Commission on Drug Education and Prevention
Also on the agenda were a proposed Community Benefit Support Policy for free landfill disposal at the Rio Rico, Sonoita-Elgin, and Tubac sites, and a remote tasting room application for Rancho Castillo in Sonoita.
Election certification
On July 29, the board held a special meeting to discuss and possibly certify the official results of the July 21, 2026, Primary Election. The only item on the agenda was certification of the official results.
