Upper Arlington boards handle procedural items; council to weigh e-bike registration, fire contract
In the past two weeks, Upper Arlington's advisory boards and commissions handled mostly procedural matters. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved minutes and cancelled its June meeting, while the City Tree Commission approved minutes with a correction. The City Council is set to consider several significant items this week, including an e-bike registration program and a fire services contract.
City Tree Commission
On Aug. 4, the City Tree Commission approved the April 7, 2026, meeting minutes with a correction regarding tree species planted at Sunny 95. Members also discussed the Urban Forestry Master Plan with OHM Advisors and reviewed outreach ideas for the July 29 Farmer's Market.
Cultural Arts Commission
On Aug. 5, the Cultural Arts Commission met to conduct an annual review of its bylaws and hold elections for officers. The agenda also included updates on the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan and the Labor Day Arts Festival. Minutes have not yet been published.
Board of Zoning and Planning (Aug. 5)
Also on Aug. 5, the Board of Zoning and Planning reviewed a replacement home design in the Historic District at 2430 Kensington Drive and informally reviewed a proposed new home at 2314 Edington Road that does not meet neighborhood compatibility requirements. The board also received training on city economic development strategies. Minutes have not yet been published.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
On Aug. 12, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved the minutes of its Feb. 11, 2026, meeting by a 6-0 vote and voted 6-0 to cancel its June meeting, scheduling the next meeting for Aug. 12. The meeting consisted of staff updates on the master plan, Bob Crane Community Center, cultural arts, recreation programs, and an ADA assessment. No substantive policy decisions were made.
Coming up
The Upper Arlington City Council will hold a regular meeting on Aug. 17. The agenda includes public hearings and action on several ordinances: establishing an e-mobility device registration program (Ordinance 27-2026), amending the administrative code, fee schedule, and building code (Ordinance 21-2026), authorizing an amended agreement with Perry Township for fire and EMS services (Ordinance 30-2026), and contracts for sewer construction projects (Ordinances 31-2026 and 32-2026). The council will also consider amendments to appropriations and the employee strength table.
On Aug. 19, the Board of Zoning and Planning will consider eight variance requests, including a garage addition at 3699 Mountview Road, a patio shelter and taller garage at 1620 Berkshire Road, a privacy fence at 4170 Waddington Road, and a home gym at 4190 Greensview Drive that was postponed from a previous hearing. The board will also approve minutes from prior meetings.
