Whitesboro boards hold discussion-only sessions on budget, economic development
No formal votes were taken at Whitesboro government meetings over the past week, as all sessions were agenda-only discussions. The most consequential items were budget workshops for the coming fiscal year and closed-door talks on economic development projects.
City Council budget workshop
The Whitesboro City Council met Aug. 5 for a budget workshop on the proposed fiscal year 2026-27 budget. The agenda covered revenues, expenditures, departmental requests, capital projects, and budget priorities. No votes were expected or taken; the session was for discussion only.
Economic development boards
Two economic development boards met Aug. 5.
The Whitesboro Industrial and Economic Development Corporations held a joint meeting to discuss bylaws, budget workshop updates, and a downtown mural. The board entered executive session to deliberate on four economic development projects — identified as Project Depot, Project Elm, Project Frontage, and Project Green — under Texas Government Code §551.087, as well as real property matters under §551.072. No action was reported.
The Whitesboro Industrial Development Corporation (WIDCO) held a separate special meeting to discuss its proposed fiscal year 2026/2027 budget, including revenues, expenditures, and projects. The board also went into closed session to discuss real estate acquisition and commercial/financial information from a business prospect for economic development negotiations, with possible action to follow. No action was reported.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met Aug. 3 to consider possible projects and budgetary priorities, review youth recreational basketball league plans, and hear a director's report covering volleyball and soccer registration, the RecDesk platform, youth baseball/softball/tee ball, Sporties for Shorties, summer programs, and swimming pool staffing and programming. No votes were taken.
Canceled meeting
